Orly Fowl Play

Indoor Lighting

Indoor Lighting

Orly Fowl Play is part of Orly's Birds of a Feather Collection for Holiday 2011. It is a deep plum shade of purple, and is a jelly polish with flakies and blue glitter. It is a very unique shade and the flakies make it extra special. The flakies looks to me to be an iridescent coral, gold, and red depending on the viewing angle. I used three coats in the swatches, and the polish has a smooth finish. Orly polishes retail for 8.99 at Sally Beauty Supply.

Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Black Magic

Indoor Lighting
I am sure you have seen plenty of swatches of these cute polishes. But I had to at least cover one of the adorably bottled polishes here. Black Magic is a black cream polish with orange and silver glitter. The brush wasn't the best but it applied fine. The swatches are two coats. These polishes retail for $2.99 at drugstores, and I have also seen them at Meijer.

Thanks for looking!

Nubar Antiquity Silver is a silver glitter with small silver flakie glitter packed in a clear base. The first two swatches are three coats. It is sheer with three coats but pretty if you like to wear sheer polish, or a french manicure. The bottom swatches are one coat over a black cream polish. The application and finish of this glitter polish is smooth. The retail price is $7.49.

Kleancolor Golden Nightmare

Kleancolor Golden Nightmare is an opaque black cream with golden glitter. This color is so pretty. There are small round, and slightly larger irregular gold glitter that makes it look almost like a flakie. The swatches are only one coat and the application formula and brush were great. The think the bottle is cute too. The finish has a slightly gritty feel so a topcoat would make it completely smooth. Kleancolor prices vary depending on where you find them starting from $1.00 to $3.99.

China Glaze Cross Iron

China Glaze Cross Iron is a very metallic pumpkin orange polish. I found it on the China Glaze Halloween display at Sally Beauty Supply. The application was smooth.  The finish as with most metallic polishes is slightly streaky. I used two coats for opaque coverage. It is a good orange polish for the fall season. I keep buying orange polishes for some reason. I haven't found the perfect one for me yet so the search continues. Cross Iron retails for $5.99.

Halloween Blood Splatter Manicure 2 : Konad

I have had my Konad kit for a few months but this was my first time using it. I was a little intimidated by the process but it is as easy as everyone says it is and I am hooked.  I want to do another Konad manicure already. This splatter manicure is much cleaner and neater looking that the straw method. It just depends on the look you are going for. This is definitely a friendlier prettier version. I used Konad plate M21. I mixed a tiny amount of Konad Black special polish mixed with Zoya Sooki to create the blood splatter color. I used this over Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White Out. I put my topcoat on a little early but a little smear with a bloody look is alright. This was a fun easy manicure that can be done in any variety of colors.

Halloween Blood Splatter Manicure 1: Straw Method

Well the paper plate I used to catch fall out and make a few practice splatters turned out pretty gruesome.

Flash
I couldn't wait to try a blood splatter manicure for the Halloween season. The first method I tried was the fun, but messy straw method. I thought using this technique over natural nails would make the look more gritty and gruesome, but a white base would offer more contrast. I will probably try to add more splatter the next time I do this manicure. Taping fingers is a must for this mani. Finding a realistic blood red polish shade was harder than I thought it would be. Many of the polishes that looked to be a good blood red shade in the bottle came off very pink on the nail. I used China Glaze Ravishing, Dahling for the blood in this manicure and it worked great. I dipped a drinking straw into the bottle and after a couple of test blows I was on my way. The blows through the straw should be short and strong. I waited about twenty minutes before applying Seche Vite top coat to avoid smearing.

Give this splatter manicure a try in any color(s) for a fun and different look.

Glitter Gal : Black Holographic

Yeay for black holo!

I finally got my hands on a black linear holo. Thanks to reading all of the helpful blogs out there and learning Glitter Gal polish was finally available in the U.S. at a few e-shops. This Glitter Gal polish can be fully opaque in one thick coat. I used two coats for the above swatches. The holographic effect is unfortunately lessened with the use of a topcoat. Also the bottle is so small at 0.30 oz. I could barely hold it for the pictures.  The above swatches are with indoor lighting and no topcoat. The holographic effect also increased with the level of lighting and will be at its fullest sparkle in the sunlight.

This polish is available at shop.llarowe.com for $14.00.

Claw Polish in Voodoo and Wet n Wild Behind Closed Doors

Claw Polish in Voodoo Three Coats

One Coat Wet n Wild Behind Closed Doors over Claw Polish Voodoo
Flash
Fright Night Claw Polish in Voodoo is a medium/deep red polish with red shimmer. The application and brush were fine. I used three coats and there was still slight visible nail line. I found this polish in the seasonal section of Meijer for $1.99.

I added one coat of Wet n Wild Behind Closed Doors from the On the Prowl Collection. It is a red glitter polish with red hexagonal glitter in a sheer black base.  The black base darkens the red polish to a deep blood red shade perfect for Halloween. Behind Closed Doors is limited edition for $1.99 at CVS.

Layla Magneffect Nail Polish

Silver Galaxy was my favorite of these four polishes. It creates a silver and black 3d effect, with silver glitter throughout. It is interesting that the magnetic quality doesn't disturb the glitter and it is evenly dispersed.

Black Metal creates a black and silver 3D effect.

Metallic Sky creates a sky blue and navy blue 3D effect

Blue Grey Flow creates a silver/gray, and blue/black 3d effect.

These polishes are so fun to apply, and the look of the 3d effect is definitely better in person. There is a line on the cap that is a good guide for how you want your design to appear. Hold the cap with the line horizontally across the nail bed for horizontal lines, or angle it slightly for the diagonal look. I used one coat on all of the nails, and then on the second coat applied the magnet for about 10 seconds to each nail as close as I could get it without touching. It may seem intimidating at first, but the process actually goes by quickly. If the design isn't as you wished just polish another layer on the nail and try again. That worked great for me.

I purchased these from AVEYOU. The retail price is $15.50 per polish, but remember to check for coupon codes online. I also received  a cute mini tote bag with my purchase. This is definitely a fun new trend in polish that I am glad I could try.
